Department of Youth
The Department of Youth was established in 1983 under the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) and functioned under the Department of Youth and Malawi Young Pioneers. From the time it was created, the Department has been under Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender, Children and Community Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development and now it is under Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Department of Sports
The Department of Sport's existence dates back to 1972. Its formation was as a result of the dissolution of the Council for Culture, Social Welfare and Sports, which was then located in Kwacha Cultural Centre Building, Blantyre. In 1972, Government dissolved this Council and formed the Department of Sports, which was located in Kamuzu Stadium and was placed under Ministry responsible for Local Government.
